Born 1970, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Lives and works in Slovenia.
One black umbrella might look unremarkable. But what about a thousand? Or two thousand plastic watering cans, ten thousand coloured balloons or fifteen thousand toy cars? Matej Andraz Vogrincic's installations can turn the most ordinary objects into visual poetry, and the most ordinary or neglected places into magical, thought-provoking spaces. He likes to get as many people involved in his projects as possible, inviting residents of Adelaide, for example, to bring along their toy cars to turn an ugly, dilapidated car park into a unique and colourful showcase. As with all his work, in Liverpool Vogrincic starts with a specific location - in this case, St Luke's church - and allows the history, resonances and emotions linked to the site to inspire his creation of a witty but moving artwork.
